Ben gets eye in for Comm Games

QRA Queens winner Ben Emms from Lyndhurst NSWThe 2017 Queensland Rifle Association Queens Prize has proved good range practice for NSW shooter Ben Emms ahead of the Commonwealth Games next April.

Ben snared just his second Queens, outlasting a quality international field over the final 900 and 1000 yards in the howling westerly on Saturday, 19th.

With the best shooters struggling to stay on target, Ben dropped 12 shots for an aggregate 488 over the three-day event. He also secured the Queens-Duncan Grand Aggregate.

Ben finished the Queens two shots clear of Ipswich veteran Rob Rush with Gillian Webb-Enslin from Pacific a shot back in third.

He and Sydney shooter Jim Bailey will represent Australia in the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

NZ shooter John Snowden won the Duncan MatchNew Zealand shooter John Snowden set a hot pace winning the Duncan lead-up match to the QRA Queens with a possible 300 with 33 centres over the six range event.

John, from Ashurburton in the South Island, has been a regular visitor to Brisbane and is part of a strong 2017 Kiwi contingent.

Natives shooter Kim O’Loghlen mastered gusty conditions over three long ranges to win the Metropolitan District Rifle Association Open on Sunday, 13th.

He was a clear winner with a possible 150 and 16 centres. Geoff Grosskreutz and Michael Collings continued their duel from the previous day, finishing locked together for the minor placings on 147 with 16 centres.

Geoff Wellburn from Pacific was just a centre bull away in fourth place.
Sydney visitor Bill Ballantyne won B Grade and University’s Mark Buckingham C Grade.

Brisbane shooters Bruce Talty and Philip Brook won F Standard and F Target Rifle respectivly while Albert and Central’s Ernie Mace won F Open.
